Questions & Answers

Scars are formed when the epidermal layers of the skin create a lot of moisture in an attempt to hydrate the scar site. However, as it reaches the stratum corneum or top layer of the skin, the majority of this moisture evaporates. This lack of moisture causes keratinocytes in the skin to make collagen.

During treatment the scar location is completely encapsulated with silicone to aid hydration. Despite covering the whole area, silicone is semipermeable, allowing oxygen to enter while maintaining essential
hydration.

This optimum healing environment in the stratum corneum prompts keratinocytes to reduce collagen formation, preventing undesirable scarring.

- Ensure the entire area of skin is clean and dry
- Measure the size of your scar and cut the strip to size (if necessary)
- Remove the backing sheet and apply the sticky side directly on to your scar
- Check that no air pockets remain in the area (it is important that the silicone strip is in contact with the skin for maximum
effectiveness)
- Start by wearing the Scar Erase strip for one-two hours on the first day, remove the strip after this time and check your skin
for any allergic reactions
- If no reaction occurs, the manufacturer recommends you wear the Scar Erase strip for a minimum of twelve hours per day to maximise results
- Scar Erase should be washed and removed from the skin for at least one hour a day
- Wash Scar Erase in mild, soapy water
- Your Scar Erase strip should be left to air dry before reapplying
- Avoid using detergents as this may lead to skin irritation
- When you are not wearing, store it on plastic backing or plastic wrap in a sealed container
- In warm weather or during exercise, Scar Erase should be cleaned more often
- Scar Erase should be replaced when it loses its sticking properties or becomes difficult to clean
- With proper care, each sheet should be useable for two weeks
- For best results it is recommended to continue the treatment for a minimum of six months

Wash the treatment sheet daily using lukewarm mild soapy water, rinse well and leave to air dry. Wear the same piece of silicone until it starts to deteriorate, then replace it with a new piece.
